Blood Donor Requirements

In the Blood Banking operations, we are observing the "win-win" scenario. That blood donation is a safe procedure and giving the donor a sense of fulfillment and so protecting and promoting the healthy lifestyle. That the recipient will benefit from the blood or product transfused and so it is our utmost concern to protect blood safety. To do this the donor's general health is evaluated every donation. The following are the general criteria for a donor:

Age

16-65

(16-17 must have parental consent, donors from 55-65 can donate provided with clearance from physician or as a regular donor)

Sex

Male and Females

Weight

110 lbs or 50 kgs. and above

Hemoglobin

12.5 g/dL or 1.053 by specific gravity (determined by blood center personnel on site)

Blood Pressure

90/60 to 160/90

Temperature

37.5 oC

 

Temporarily deferred donors

Deferment following vaccination

Those who cannot be allowed to donate blood
